Rare Weimar comedy in less than stellar quality, but this film is worth it. If you know your Brecht, you can spot where he stole from films he liked and I guess Samuel Beckett must have seen seen this film before he wrote Waiting for Godot.
The story only consists of the fact that in the small city of Ostend one day a certain Mister O.F. is announced and his large trunks arrive ahead of him. The people wonder which influential person he could be and how this will affect Ostend and they begin all kinds of business schemes. As you can guess O.F. never arrives, but the situation spirals out of control. The film is obviously heavily influenced by Brechtian theater with songs in "Dreigroschenoper" style, quick montages and a lack of classical focus on characters.
It's very much a forgotten gem and most certainly a very interesting film.
